Roofing Slate Samples & Specifications

A good material specification connects the desired appearance to a clearly identified slate and a complete roof design. Use this checklist when requesting information for a new roof or restoration.

Request a QuoteRequest Samples

Identify the material

Record the product or color name, producer or quarry information where available, size, thickness and any agreed blend. Use approved samples as a reference for appearance.

Request product-specific documentation

Ask for the relevant test reports, classification information and written warranty terms for the slate being quoted. Discuss fire or impact requirements with the designer and request applicable assembly documentation rather than relying on broad marketing claims.

Separate supply from roof design

The material quote should identify what is included. Your designer and roofer should specify roof slope, headlap, fastening, underlayment, flashings, ventilation and structural requirements for the complete assembly.

Make the quote easy to prepare

Provide a roof takeoff or area, project location, delivery access information, required date and contact details. Identify whether you need samples, specification support, replacement material or a full roof order.

Common questions

What should I send with a slate quote request?

Send your project location, approximate roof area or takeoff, preferred material and size, delivery timeframe and a way to reach you. Include known requirements and drawings when you follow up by email.

Can I request technical documents before ordering?

Yes. Specify the material you are considering and the documents required by your architect or project team. Availability will be confirmed for that product.
